About National Fire Information Database

The National Fire Information Database (NFID) is a groundbreaking national fire data pilot project that will gather and unify 10 years of fire information from across the country and create Canada’s first national system for collecting fire statistics. This project, to be launched this fall, will link fire data with other relevant datasets, and will initiate the creation of new evidence-based research related to fire, public safety, and security.

This project is supported by the Canadian Safety and Security Program, a federal program led by Defence Research and Development Canada's Centre for Security Science, in partnership with Public Safety Canada. Partners in the project include the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs (CAFC), the Council of Canadian Fire Marshals and Fire Commissioners (CCFMFC), Public Safety Canada, Sir Wilfred Laurier University, and Rhapsody Strategies Inc.

Founded in 1909, the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs (CAFC) is an independent, non-profit organization representing approximately 3,500 fire departments across Canada.

The primary mission of CAFC is to promote the highest standard of public safety in an ever changing and increasingly complex world to ensure the protection of the public through leadership, advocacy and active collaboration with key stakeholders.

About CCFMFC

The Council of Canadian Fire Marshals and Fire Commissioners supports its members in their efforts to minimize losses from fire.

They have representation from each province and territory in Canada. While each region's role and responsibilities may vary, this Council's desire to continue working toward a stronger and safer Canada is mutual.
